I decided that it is useful for me to work on my writing skills. Not only is is a hobby but also PR professionals need to be able to write well. For this purpose I ordered some books at Amazon.
W. Zinsser-On writing well
The Elements of Journalism: What Newspeople Should Know and the Public Should Expect
As soon as I finish these and practice my writing, I will probably take on more. However, you can only learn writing by practice, so my notebook will go everywhere with me now.

Campaigning with question marks
An absolutely brilliant PR stunt by a Dutch newspaper, see this post on my personal blog.
Question marks on buildings representing an unknown future.
To raise the attention of all stakeholders around this issue, this is highly effective. Employees realize that "their" company could be next and they could lose their job, the public(=consumers) see it on the news and politicians are more aware of the issue.
Although I do not always agree with the opinions of this paper, I think this is a brilliant campaign so applause!

Long time, no blog
It has been a while since I last posted on this blog. Below are the reasons:
- I started working for an investor relations firm. Contentwise, I learnt a lot but I did not know what to disclose and what not. Could a post for example reflect on my employer? Was I allowed to express my opinions on a personal level? Since I did not have all the answers yet, I decided to stick to my personal blog for a while and think about what to do with this one.
- The quest for the right angle continued. I felt lost and had no idea what to write about and what not. In general I was lacking inspiration. Now I feel I should write about PR in the Netherlands, my experiences working as a PR consultant for an NGO and life as a beginning PR consultant.
- I was not happy with my writing skills. I felt my posts did not really reflect my thoughts and that what I had to say. I decided to train myself more and I am still working on that.
- I missed interactivity. I did not monitor traffic on my blog and had no idea what its contribution was. Now, I decided that I very much value online discussions, but if not, well I will keep on writing.
So, to mark a new beginning, I changed the title a little. It is a blog about PR written by me.

Press release :-)
Floor Schmeitz will join the board of Atma Mumbai starting from April 2007. She will be responsible for PR and communication strategies.
"In the last months I mainly worked on fundraising by selling products for Atma Mumbai. I very much wanted to have a direct impact on the organisation and support the projects with funding. When Adrienne asked me to join the board however I could not refuse. I think many opportunities lay ahead for Atma Mumbai and I am very enthusiastic about contributing to them. This will be a new challenge for me and I am very much looking forward to it ", says Floor.
Floor is currently working at a PR-firm, where she specializes in Investor Relations. She holds a master degree in communication sciences and is currently finishing her master in business administration.

The quest for the right angle
My blog posts have become less frequent lately. My thoughts however have been focused on it. I am still not sure how to position my blog, what topics to write about and what angle the blog should take.
I am increasingly becoming more specialized in Investor Relations, but I am also a young PR pro and I want to keep discussions going with other pros. Furthermore, I want my blog to generate more views but for that I should find my own unique position in the blogworld first.
As you can read, I am not so sure on what angle to take: the quest will continue.

Help/Input needed
Short introduction: I work at an Investor Relations firm based in The Netherlands and in my spare time I do volunteer work for an NGO called Atma Mumbai. I am trying to come up with some good PR-intiatives for them but the climate is tough.
To give you an idea: people in The Netherlands want to donate a lot of money but are suspicious by nature. Anything that smells of "professionalism"is assumed to cost money which NGO's are not supposed to have. Atma is a small NGO, very hands-on so results are easy to identify (big pro!!). Problem is now that the organiszation needs to put itself out there in order to grown, hence a PR strategy.
Does anyone have any input/experience how to increase awareness on this organisation without coming across as agressive?? Maybe using less traditional media? Any input is welcome!
